Casagrande Piezometers

Application

The standpipe Piezometer is a reliable system for the measurement of pore water pressure in soils and rocks. It comprises a sealed standpipe tube connected to a porous element. Water enters the tube via the porous element. The head of the water developed within the standpipe is the pore water pressure. The water level is determined by lowering a dipmeter probe from ground level. A bourdon gauge may be fixed to the standpipe when artesian pressures are present. A standpipe piezometer may be capped and converted to a bubbler system for remote reading.
